Community Care Share Program
In 2020, Conscious Homestead launched their Community Care Share Program with the redesign and expansion of Candace & Tony's gardens and building of a greenhouse to maximize the amount of food we could grow along with the timeframe we could we could grow on the homestead.
In 2021, the redesign was completed and we grew together in community with our fellows and volunteers an assortment of vegetables, fruits, botanicals, eggs and culinary & medicinal herbs to share with black and brown folks in our community for FREE. This continued through to 2022 with the support of volunteers and fellows. Over those two grow seasons we have distributed hundreds of FREE community care shares to BIPOC in our area.
In 2023 we received an LFPA grant to fund the expansion of our Community Care Share Program. This enabled us to hire our Community Care Share Program Manager, as well as, partner with other local homesteads and farms to provide more food each week during the summertime to 30 BIPOC households in Vermont. During the winter, we offer a biweekly care share to supplement groceries during the off season. With some care shares we also offer recipes in which to use ingredients received that week. Farms and food makers we partner with this year to provide FREE weekly or biweekly care shares are: Khelcolm Farm*, Ananda Gardens*, Strafford Creamery*, Maplewind Farm, Lily Hammerling's Homestead*, Farmer James Keys Apiary*, VT Beancrafters, Black River Produce, Jericho Settlers, Thingz from Yaad*, Taste of Abyssinia*, Taino Kitchen* and our own Conscious Homestead*.
In winter 2023, we began to offer Open Dome Days - a once a month gathering for care share recipients and Conscious Homestead community members. During Open Dome Days, the Conscious Homestead team prepares food and beverages for folks to take to-go as they pick up their shares or to enjoy in the Conscious Homestead Geodesic Dome or elsewhere on the homestead. Open Dome Days are a time for community gathering, where we often offer crafts, workshops, or just a place to work and be with others.
If you are a local farm, homestead or food maker and you are interested in partnering contact us at [email protected].
